The fresh fish of Al Mawredah Fish Market in Khartoum
Another attraction not to be missed in Khartoum is the Al-Mawredah Fish Market (Al Morada). The market takes place every day in a small area in Omdurman on the western bank of the Nile river. It’s said to be one of the oldest in Sudan and well known for being the best place to buy fresh fish in town. The market is usually bustling early in the morning when the fishermen gather here to display the catch for sale. There are many types of fish in the market, from the most common tilapia and catfish to local species such as Kabrous, Saarot, Duni, Karkour, Alsawiya and Hail. Even in this market, the fishermen were very welcoming, and it was fun to take some pics with them.

How to get there
The market is located along Al-Morada street in Omdurman, on the western bank of the Nile. The best moment for a visit it’s early in the morning when it’s still crowded and with the stalls plenty of fresh fish. You can get there by taxi paying a few SDG.
