A refreshing stop in the emerald water of the Bimmah Sinkhole
Leaving the Wadi Shab or before getting there, you should stop at Hawiyat Najm Park to see or have a swim in the Bimmah Sinkhole, a naturally water-filled depression in the limestone of the ground.
This 40 meters wide and 20-meter deep cavernous hole is a marvellous piece of nature and is filled with amazing emerald-green water. Even though a local legend says that it was formed by a meteorite fallen in this place (Hawiyat Najm means “the falling star“), it was caused by the limestone erosion and the collapse of the rocks.
Need to Know about Bimmah Sinkhole
1) How to get there
Driving on the Muscat-Sur highway, the park is between Dibab and Bimmah villages, around 100 km Muscat and 30 km from Wadi Shab. On the highway take the exit indicating “Hawiyat Najm Park”. You’ll find it on google map as “Bimmah Sinkhole” (GPS: 23.036887, 59.070086).
It is located in the fenced and toilet-equipped Hawiyat Najm Park, just 5 minutes walk from the car park. There is no stand selling drinks or food, so bring your stuff. If you do not plan to swim, half an hour is sufficient to take some pics and walk to the water level.
You can combine the Bimmah Sinkhole with the Wadi Shab, Wadi Tiwi or Wadi Al Arbaieen.
3) Tour packages
If you don’t have your vehicle, you can arrange a daily trip from Muscat through the web Platforms as GetYourGuide or Viator that offer excellent deals to visit Bimmah Sinkhole combined with other attractions.
